What is this? This is a quick summary of what I'm doing and what I'm focusing on lately. Think of it as a more relevant and interesting "About" page. Inspired by nownownow.com.

I like to do a reading project during the summer. This year I picked up War and Peace and I’m reading it and really enjoying it! It’s a lot more readable than what I was expecting from a classic Russian author. It’s like an adventure book. I’m about 600 pages in at this point (33% done!).

So far, War and Peace has taken place in Russia during the span of the Napoleonic Wars, so I’ve also been learning more about that separately. My education didn’t give me much of a background on the guy, so it’s been interesting to learn about Napoleon’s rise, Austeritz, his march into Russia and his flair for public relations.

Otherwise, a huge infrastructure migration we’ve been working on at Nat Geo is about to have its switchover day, so work’s been heavily focused on that. I recently presented at our Explorers Festival to about 200 National Geographic storytellers, scientists and conservationists which went really well.

I’m also looking forward to beach trips this summer — we have a big one planned in July and another in August that will be rad.

And burying the lede, I recently earned the masters degree I’d been working on in the ethics of technology from the University of Edinburgh. Got a Masters of Science with distinction even. On to more publishing and more philosophy!
